Most of us see dogs as part of our family and love nearly everything about them. However, there are always going to be behaviors from our dogs that we might want to change. This book outlines simple, effective ways to change your dog’s behavior that do not fall under conventional training recommendations.

Known as management, these solutions focus on preventing unwanted behaviors from occurring, leading to a more harmonious life with your dog. Each chapter dives into a different behavior issue that dog guardians commonly face, including:

• Getting into the trash
• Dashing out doors
• Jumping on guests
• Barking
• Pulling on leash
• Counter-surfing
• And more...

Management can give a family immediate relief from the challenging behavior they are experiencing from their dog and allow for progress to be built from there. Sometimes, implementing management prevents dog training services from being needed at all. While some dog training books touch on the concept of management, there is no other book that focuses as much on using this powerful technique as this one does.

In this book, you will gain an understanding of what management is and how to use it, as well as learn about dog behavior and the science of learning. Ultimately, Manage It! is about supporting and enriching the human-canine bond through behavior-change solutions that work for both ends of the leash.

What reviewers are saying...
Finally! A much-needed book about what every professional trainer knows: The management of a behavioral problem can be just as important as training, and often more practical. Kudos to DeWillems for giving us this essential book!

MANAGE IT! Hacks for Improving your Dog's Behavior

Posted by Darcey - Up Dog LA on 30th Aug 2024

I was so excited when I saw Juliana was putting this book out on a subject that is so important to me since I do Board & Train in my home and am always "managing", multiple dogs. Beyond that I am always talking about management with my clients and now I have a book I can refer them to for more detail. Some people also think of management just inside the home, however there is a lot of management needed in outdoor environments and situations as well and this book covers it all. I've highlighted this book front to back and will have it on display at all my Sunday Puppy Socials for puppy parents (and B&T clients), to use as a quick reference guide if they like. As much as I use management myself for years, even I have learned a few more tools to use through this much needed book in our dog loving world!

Juliana DeWillems shows her amazing writing skills in her first book .......MANAGE IT! I can not rave enough about this book on how it can help so many guardians with their K9 companion. In fact, all dog professionals should purchase this book and have it become part of their library collection on dog behavior. That said, Juliana DeWillems is also a brilliant presenter when she offers webinars on dog training........I am glad to say I believe I have watched most of them to date. Thank you, Juliana!

Recommend this for all dog owners!

Posted by Sophie on 10th Aug 2024

This book is fantastic. I already do a lot of the management strategies mentioned in the book, and honestly used to feel like I was being lazy for not training every issue out of our dogs. This book made me realize that the management I use is actually improving my dogs' quality of life (and mine as well), and teaching them lots of good habits with very little training or effort. I also love that the book talks about the downfalls of punishment in specific scenarios, to give a better understanding of why positive reinforcement and management are the way to go. Strongly recommend this book to anyone that has dogs or works with dogs.

I highly recommend anyone getting a dog or who already has a dog invest in this book. The use of QR codes throughout help you get even more information as you are reading instead of having to go hunt it down. It's an easy read for anyone to understand and will help your relationship with your dog!
